That was the year Palestine started playing international football, in their first FIFA-sanctioned match against Lebanon.

The team is largely dependent on the few sponsorships and financial contributions it receives from the Palestinian diaspora, as well as from outside sources. Everything is impacted by this financial strain, especially player salaries and the availability of facilities and training equipment.
